Yes, Larson Tax Relief is absolutely legitimate. With nearly two decades in business and thousands of resolved cases, the company is well-established and trustworthy. Clients can expect to work with certified tax professionals who understand IRS negotiations and case management.
That said, Larson’s approach leans traditional and relies heavily on manual communication. They do not appear to have an online portal that allows clients to stay updated on their case progression. This may indicate slower case updates and communication than digital-first competitors like TaxRise.

Larson Tax Relief Reviews

Years of Loyalty Betrayed – $20K+ Wasted, No Results, and Complete Disregard from Larson Tax Relief UPDATE 2 August 1, 2025 After I posted honest reviews about my experience with Larson Tax... read more Relief, I was copied on an internal email sent by Ron Larson, one of the firm’s founders. In it, he dismissed my concerns as a “threat” and misrepresented the nature of my refund request. Here’s a direct quote from the email: "Xxxx I want to make you aware of a recent x-client, who demanded a $5,500 refund or she would give us negative reviews. I reviewed the work and it was clear that no refund was due. She left us a bunch of 1-star reviews including BBB complaint." I did not demand a refund “or else.” I shared my story after exhausting every internal channel to resolve this. And this internal communication confirms they have no interest in accountability, just damage control. UPDATE As expected, Larson posted a scripted response that avoids accountability and tries to discredit me. Let me be clear: this is not a threat—it’s a factual account. I paid over $20,000 in the past 12 months, including $5,500 in 2025 alone, and received no resolution, no meaningful updates, and little communication. When I reported identity theft, a Larson rep laughed—an unprofessional moment they’ve never addressed. They now refuse to refund even the $5,500 paid this year, despite failing to deliver any actual service. If they truly cared about client outcomes, they’d acknowledge the breakdown and offer a partial refund at minimum. I urge others to read the 1-star reviews on Google, Yelp, BBB, and beyond. You’ll see this isn’t an isolated case—it’s a pattern. I regret not doing so sooner. ORIGINAL I was a loyal client of Larson Tax Relief for years—and I now deeply regret it. Over the last 12 months, I paid them more than $20,000 for tax representation. And what did I get? No resolution. No progress. No communication. And no refund. Let me be very clear: Larson completely dropped the ball, over and over again. By late 2024, communication had already started falling apart. I would go weeks or longer without a response. I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt, assuming work was being done in the background. But I was wrong. Absolutely nothing was happening—except more invoices showing up, demanding more money. Between January and July 2025, I paid them $5,550. I received nothing in return. The worst moment? I told one of their reps that I was the victim of identity theft, and that I couldn’t file my personal taxes because my Social Security number was stolen. She laughed at me. Let that sink in—laughed. Eventually, I had no choice but to move on and hire another firm. I requested a refund for the 2025 payments based on zero service delivered. On July 25, 2025, Larson replied saying they wouldn’t refund anything. Instead, they referenced internal billing records—as if that erases the months of silence, missed deadlines, and total inaction. I stayed with Larson far too long because I thought they understood my case and starting over would be too difficult. That misplaced trust cost me thousands of dollars and years of delay. I feel taken advantage of, disrespected, and ignored. They’ll continue to bill you long after they’ve stopped doing anything meaningful for your case. If you ask for accountability, they’ll gaslight you, dodge responsibility, and blame everything on you. And yes—they’ll probably file a rebuttal to this report filled with more of the same scripted excuses they’ve given others. But don’t take my word for it—do your own research. Read the 1-star reviews on Google. Go to Yelp, ComplaintsBoard, BBB—read the worst-rated reviews, the ones that sound exactly like this one. It’s a pattern. It’s not just me. I only wish I had read those reviews three years ago. It would’ve saved me money, time, and a mountain of stress.

I have been working with Larson for quite a while and satisfied is an understatement. Dealing with tax problems is already stressful enough so having someone that made me... read more feel calm was crucial. Rui Pereira took over my account about a year ago and last week he was able to get a resolution to this giant "black cloud" that has been over my head for years. I could not have asked for a better person to be in my corner. My sincere thanks to everyone that had a hand in helping my case.

On March 26, 2024, I hired Larson Tax and Randi Nix to assist with resolving my past due tax debt. I initially paid them $5,000, followed by additional payments of... read more $3,000 on December 5, 2024, and $1,000 on March 20, 2025—bringing the total amount paid to $9,000. Throughout this time, I was repeatedly told that Larson Tax was in communication with the IRS and working on a solution to place me into an installment agreement. However, when I contacted the IRS directly in May 2025, I was informed that they had not heard from Larson Tax or any representative on my behalf since January 2025. This means that despite collecting thousands of dollars in fees after that date, Larson Tax was not actively working on my case or providing the services promised. There was no resolution or results provided by Larson Tax at any point. I ultimately had to contact the IRS myself to begin resolving the matter on my own—something I hired Larson Tax specifically to handle. Their lack of action and misrepresentation of their efforts caused unnecessary stress and delay. I feel misled and taken advantage of. They accepted substantial payments under false pretenses and failed to deliver on their commitments. I am requesting a full refund of the $9,000 paid, as the services I was promised were not provided.

Larson is not a tax relief company. They are a financial company that farms out tax problems to sub-contracting CPAs. It turns out the CPA assigned to me no longer... read more works for Larson, but not until 4 years of my taxes were screwed up. I was even given a wrong address to send tax returns to. That mistake alone cost me 40K in penalties and interest. Now, instead of owing the original 30K, I now owe 148K, with a lien on my house, and wage garnishments that kill. All this after paying 8K to Larson for NOTHING BUT MORE ISSUES

I am posting my review of the Larson Tax Relief firm regarding my payment of back taxes I owe the IRS. I share my unfortunate experience with the firm with... read more readers. Larson charges an upfront flat fee of $2500, regardless of how simple or complex your tax situation is. This appears to be the bait. There is tremendous urgency need to collect the "total" fee right away, in case the customer disappears before his case is resolved. After submitting all the requested documents I got a call asking for over $2000 more since my case was “very complex” (the switch?). I heard about everything I did wrong and how they wouldn’t be able to get a favorable outcome from the IRS without the additional fee. So I terminated my contract and dealt directly with the IRS. It took a long time but the final outcome was very reasonable and affordable. The dire consequences which were supposed to scare me into paying more did not occur. So what does that say about the hyped experience and past success claimed in dealing with the IRS? Upon termination of the contract I requested a refund since no meaningful work was done. An internal email I received in error stated they would offer me $250 just to make me feel good. I requested $1000 and received $750. After reaching my settlement with the IRS I realized the futility of signing the agreement with Larson. I requested another refund since they did me a disservice by unnecessarily exaggerating the complexity of my case. My request was promptly and rudely denied. My IRS agreement clearly supports my belief that the additional fee they requested was either (i) their way of getting the most from unsuspecting, “non-tax savvy” customers, or (ii) they are not adequately qualified or experienced to perform the services they advertise.

Customer Sentiment Snapshot
Larson Tax Relief has a mix of positive and negative reviews. Many clients praise the company’s personal touch and professionalism. On the BBB, Larson holds an A+ rating, and Trustpilot reviews are similarly strong, often noting that agents are responsive and knowledgeable.
However, some customers report longer turnaround times and higher fees, which can be frustrating for those seeking alternative tax resolution options or those with complex cases. A few also note that while Larson provides an excellent service, they would prefer a more transparent pricing structure or more digital tools to stay informed about their case progress.
By comparison, TaxRise earns higher marks for transparency and efficiency. Clients consistently highlight quick communication, better fees, and clear updates throughout their cases. For taxpayers who value a high-quality service and modern convenience, TaxRise often delivers a smoother overall experience.
Our Verdict
Larson Tax Relief is a dependable and ethical choice for resolving tax problems, particularly for those who appreciate family-run businesses. But when it comes to balancing cost, transparency, and ease of use, TaxRise stands out as the better value.
With its lower minimum tax debt of 10,000 and its 2-step tax resolution process, TaxRise makes professional tax relief accessible to a broader range of clients. If you’re looking for a mix of professional expertise and modern efficiency, TaxRise is the stronger choice in 2025.
Larson Tax Relief Alternatives
Before selecting any tax relief provider, it’s smart to compare options and review each company’s pricing, communication style, and track record. While Larson offers exceptional experience, other top-rated competitors may provide faster service or more flexible terms. We recommend researching companies like TaxRise and Optima Tax Relief to understand what fits your needs best. Always read client reviews and ask about the services provided.
Larson Tax Relief vs. TaxRise
Both Larson Tax Relief and TaxRise are reputable tax resolution companies, but they differ in approach and accessibility. Larson Tax Relief promotes a strong reputation for professionalism and personal tax resolution services. Clients appreciate its hands-on service and expertise in IRS matters. However, the company also lacks modern online tools, which can make progress tracking less convenient for busy clients.
TaxRise, by contrast, represents the new generation of tax resolution — combining technology and transparency. Its streamlined Two-Phase Tax Resolution Process ensures clients only move forward after confirming eligibility and understanding their case scope, helping avoid unnecessary costs. TaxRise also offers real-time progress tracking through an online client portal and faster communication throughout the process. While Larson Tax Relief is a solid and trustworthy option, TaxRise’s client-focused approach and efficient systems make it the better choice for most taxpayers seeking reliable IRS tax relief in 2025.
