Precision Tax Relief Review 2025: Services and Prices

Precision Tax Relief is one of the oldest tax relief companies specializing in back taxes and IRS collections. In this review, we examine its credentials, services, costs, pros & cons, and how it stacks up in comparison to other tax relief providers.

Key Takeaway

Precision Tax Relief is one of the more credible tax-relief firms, offering flat-fee pricing, strong customer reviews, and a long operating history since 1967. If you owe a substantial amount (often $10,000+), Precision may be a good choice. However, it’s not perfect: there are other tax relief firms offering better pricing options or broader services for smaller balances. So while Precision Tax Relief is solid, it may not be the best fit for every taxpayer.

Precision Tax operates on a smaller scale compared to other top tax relief firms. While they have been in business for decades and maintain a highly experienced team of tax professionals, their overall staff size and case volume are more limited. This smaller footprint allows for a more personalized, hands-on approach, but it also means they handle fewer clients at any given time and may not have the same broad infrastructure or resources.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Precision Tax Relief 2025 Data Breach

On April 1, 2025, Precision Tax Relief, LLC (“Precision Tax”) experienced a significant cybersecurity incident in which an unauthorized party gained access to the company’s internal systems. While the full scope of the data breach is unknown, reports indicate that sensitive client information may have been exposed, potentially including personal identifiers, financial data, and documents submitted as part of the tax resolution process.

Precision Tax has not disclosed the total number of affected clients, but has taken proactive steps to notify all impacted individuals and implement additional security measures.

Is Precision Tax Relief Legit?

Yes, Precision Tax Relief is a legitimate tax resolution company. It is licensed, has a strong reputation, and has been operating for decades. That said, legitimacy isn’t the same as a guarantee of outcome. As with any tax relief firm, results depend heavily on your specific tax situation and how the IRS responds.

Customer Sentiment Snapshot

Overall, Precision Tax’s customer sentiment is highly favorable, with many clients highlighting excellent communication and empathy from its representatives. The company scores high across major review platforms, but some negative reviews mention dissafaction with the actual costs and delays in their case updates.

While Precision Tax has a high volume of positive reviews, our research shows that clients may be incentivized or persuaded to remove any negative reviews as seen below.

Client Review: “Please do not call me on my personal time again to ask me to remove a review.”

“A great firm, and they fixed my unfiled taxes and soved all of my tax issues….. Then, a year later charged my debit card $500 completely out of the blue for a payment on a balance that had been paid in full for a year. I had to call their billing department, who reversed the charge, but said “While we have no idea how or why your card was charged, we reversed the charge immediately. You have no idea how or why??? That is probably something that should be looked into!! I may be silly, but ive never had a payment plan restart itself after a year. I feel like it didnt happen by itself. Just saying, if cards are suddenly charged after a year, who charged it? Ive had to replace my debit card to insure no future “accidental” charges are made. Update: I’ve added a star to my review because the team did a great job on my tax issues. So even though I have received another “apology” call, (Asking me to remove my negative review) and they reversed the charges, I’m sticking with my review. Nice people, but they still charged me $500 an entire year later. Please do not call me on my personal time again to ask me to remove a review.”

Client Review: “They said that they would only give the money back if I removed the review.”

“This is for PTR in Post Falls, Idaho.

I had orignally placed this review earlier. However, PTR had made $600.00 of unauthorized charges against my credit card. They said that they would only give the money back if I removed the review. That’s extortion. It was our money.
I removed the review, got my money back, and now the review comes back.

We paid several thousand dollars up front to get their service. They boasted about their great reviews on Trust-Pilot. They were more than happy to take our money.

We had 4 years worth of tax mistakes that they had to fix. It was the same one mistake that we made on all four years. Three were completed withing the one year contract but one case took over 20 months.

PTR made numerous mistakes on all of the cases. When they make mistakes, the IRS holds the client accountable. So, we had to check their work closely.

For the fourth case, they blamed all of the delays on the IRS.

Months went by when they said they were checking the status with the IRS when, in reality, the IRS didn’t even have our case.

After things were finally resolved (our file should have been closed), they started charging our credit card $300,00 per month (without authorization).

I had seen a tax attorney about mid way through this process and thought about switching services. I wish I had.

I made the date of the experience in December because that’s when PTR credited our credit card account for $600.00.”

Our Verdict

If you’re dealing with a substantial IRS tax debt and need professionals on your case, Precision Tax can be a good choice. However, the company is not a one-size-fits-all solution and may not be able to serve taxpayers with smaller tax debts or very complex cases. It also has a smaller operational scale, suggesting it lacks some of the broader infrastructure, robust departments, and high-volume resources that top competing tax relief companies offer.

In addition, the 2025 data breach occurred just before the previous tax season ended. This may raise concerns as we enter the next tax season and taxpayers begin seeking assistance from a professional tax company. We recommend taxpayers to review our Best Tax Relief Companies list or read more about TaxRise (our featured pick)

Alternatives to Precision Tax Relief

Before choosing any tax relief provider, it’s smart to compare multiple companies and understand each one’s strengths, weaknesses, and pricing structure. Precision Tax is a valid option, but taxpayers may benefit from researching firms that can handle both federal and state tax debt and have dedicated case managers. Top alternatives include tax resolution firms with streamlined processes, such as TaxRise, our expert pick of the year.

Precision Tax Relief vs. TaxRise

When comparing Precision Tax Relief to TaxRise, the most notable difference is scale and services. Precision Tax operates as a smaller firm that focuses on a more personalized case-management experience but handles a lower volume of clients. This allows for attentive service but limits the company’s capacity and range of services — particularly for clients who have both federal and state tax debt or more complex situations that require multi-team coordination.

Precision also experienced a publicly reported data breach in 2025, raising valid concerns about its security protocols given its role in handling highly sensitive financial information.

TaxRise, on the other hand, maintains a larger national footprint with more robust staffing and a structured, transparent two-phase process. The tax relief firm’s infrastructure, technology, and case-resolution capacity make it better equipped to address a wide range of IRS issues efficiently. For most taxpayers, TaxRise emerges as the more favorable and reliable choice.
